The new international airport in Kastelli will be ready within schedule, stressed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who – continuing his two-day visit to Crete – was at the construction site of the project.
“The progress that has been made is impressive,” said the prime minister, according to Nea Kriti, who explained that “we are talking about the biggest construction site at the moment in our country.
“We are talking about one of the biggest airports being built in Europe, an airport which will eventually be bigger than this which was initially foreseen,” he said. “That’s because we have to anticipate and take into account the positive developments that have taken place since the airport was originally planned.”
Mitsotakis also mentioned that “within the timetables we have set, Crete will have a state-of-the-art airport for the next century.”
“It is unthinkable to talk about the development of the island without a modern airport and without a modern highway,” he said, adding that the airport when completed “will be an architectural jewel but also a beacon of development”.
The prime minister was welcomed at the construction site of the new international airport by the mayor of Minoa Pidiados Manolis Fragakis, TERNA officials, the metropolitan of Arkalochori, Kastelios and Viannos, Andreas and local bodies.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ next stop is the Karteros Beach Sports Centre facilities that will host the 3rd Mediterranean Coastal Games.
