Greece’s relevant transport minister said a new 25-year concession agreement for the Attiki Odos tollway – the arc-shaped ring road running across the breadth of northern Athens – leave mandate a toll of 2.5 euros, down from the current 2.80 euros.
Minister Costas Karamanlis – a cousin of the same-name premier between 2004 and 2009 – said binding offers for the new concession must calculate tolls based on the slightly lower rate.
The current concession contact expires in October 2024.
Attiki Odos (Attica Roadway) was the first privately built and managed tollway in the country, deemed as “revolutionary”, by Greek standards, when built in the 1990s. The total length of the tollway and its off-shoots exceeds 65 kilometers.
The new concession contract is being tendered by the Greek state’s privatization agency, HRADF.
Interested consortia will have to submit binding financial offers within the coming months.
