On the European Night of Museums this Saturday, May 14th, the Acropolis Museum has announced that it will extend its opening hours from 8:00 until midnight, and offer free entry to visitors from 20:00 onwards.

On International Museum Day, on May 18th, marked around the world with free entrance to museums and sites, the museum will also be celebrating with a series of events, including two new “gallery talks” and one new “family trail” pamphlet.

The first talk, titled “Digital Acropolis Museum. New interactive applications,” will take place between 11:00 and 14:00. For this occasion, touch screens in the museum highlighting various aspects of the exhibits, developed before the pandemic but turned off as a restrictive measure against Covid-19, will be turned on for a three-hour period, and presented by the museums’ archaeologists.

The second one, titled “Hidden stories of the diaspora,” will start at 12:00 and at 14:00 (and at 17:00 & 18:00 in Greek), and will delve into the mysteries and the little-known stories of the dispersal of some of the most important works of the Acropolis.

The new “family trail” pamphlet, which will be available to families at the information desk, is titled “The Parthenon Sculptures. 6 short stories of separation.” Following its directions, kids will walk towards the Parthenon Gallery on the Museum’s third floor, discovering sculptures that are there – and the sculptures that are missing. Details behind how and why they went missing will be discovered through the adventures of six famous sculptures.

On this day, the museum will be open from 8:00 to 20:00, with free entry for all visitors.
