Attica Region Announcement: “Due to the severe weather events that have begun to manifest this morning in Attica and meteorological forecasts for worsening weather in the next 24 hours, by the decision of the Attica Regional Governor G. Patoulis after appropriate consultation with the Mayor of Attica, tomorrow, Monday 6 February, all public and private schools (primary and secondary education institutions) in Attica will be closed. In addition, all kindergartens and nurseries in Attica will also be closed by unanimous decision of the mayors.

The decision was made in order to protect the educational community (students and teachers) from possible risks when traveling to and from school units.

It is noted that students, teaching staff, guardians and parents of schoolchildren can move to (and from) areas of Atticawhich face particular challenges due to snowfall, snow cover and frost.

However, in accordance with the instructions issued by the competent civil protection service, the movement of citizens should be limited in order to avoid accidents and traffic jams.

The decision to close schools on Monday was deemed necessary to allow sufficient time to clean the prefecture’s roads, as well as the yards of school divisions.

Concerning schools on Tuesday, February 7, presumably, they will also be closed. A new announcement is expected after the evaluation of the latest meteorological data.
