Thessaloniki expects first electric buses

The first electric buses will arrive in Thessaloniki very soon, the construction of charging stations for them is already under development, ΟΑΣΘ announced yesterday.

According to the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization, the arrival is expected in the next few months, the issue was discussed on Friday at a closed meeting of the leadership of the organization and the leadership of the Thessaloniki Transport Project Organization (ΟΣΕΘ) with the secretary general of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport Yiannis Xifaras, responsible for transport issues.

ΟΣΕΘ President and CEO Konstantinos Tangiris announced that studies are already underway to build two electric bus charging stations at the organisation’s depots, Finikas and Stavroupolis.

And Mr. Xifaras noted that the transition of the country’s urban transport to the era of electrification is a priority of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and dwelled on the processes that are “launched”.

The meeting also discussed issues related to the restructuring of routes and other issues of new transport planning in Thessaloniki.
