Greece: Unions call for 24-hour nationwide strike next Wed.

Surging inflation and higher cost of living is the main theme of this year’s strike action

Labor unions in Greece have called for a nationwide strike next Wednesday, Nov. 9, an industrial action expected to affect mass transports in the country, especially in the greater Athens area.

Unions, led by the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), the umbrella body representing all such entitites, usually call a 24-hour strike in November, coinciding with the tabling of next year’s budget in Parliament by the government in power.

Surging inflation and higher cost of living is the main theme of this year’s strike action.
