“The expansion of our contacts also into include the field of RES, with the promotion of a new electrical interconnection, will give new momentum to the change of our energy mix” emphasized the Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas, after a teleconference with the minister on Thursday Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince, Abdulaziz Bin Salman.
During the teleconference, the two ministers confirmed the deepening of bilateral cooperation between Greece and Saudi Arabia in the field of energy and welcomed the establishment of a high-level bilateral working group, which will facilitate the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in July of 2022. As it was emphasized, “it is important to activate the working groups from both sides”.
Cooperation between the two countries
The ministers expressed their willingness to work together to ensure stability in international oil markets, continue close communication with each other, and further deepen their cooperation to address emerging risks and challenges.
They also underlined the need to ensure the supply of energy to global markets, noting that Saudi Arabia is still one of Greece’s most reliable partners and suppliers of crude oil.
The discussions between the two sides also included the topic of cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy Sources and the promotion of an electrical interconnection that will export clean energy to Greece and Europe.
Pure hydrogen
In addition, the importance of clean hydrogen and the best ways to transport it to Europe, through Greece, were discussed.
After the teleconference, Mr. Skrekas referred to the two countries expanding their contacts also in the field of RES, by promoting a new electrical interconnection.
