Tourism minister Vassilis Kikilias has highlighted that the goals of Greek tourism are being achieved, noting that “in the second half of 2022, around 5.7 million travelers will have come to Athens by air.”
Speaking to SKAI television, the Minister of Tourism stated that September will be a record month, while he noted that based on the strategy and the plan being implemented, the question is not the number of travelers, but the revenue that tourism will bring to the country’s economy and the pockets of the average Greek family.
Reinforcing new areas for tourism
At the same time, he mentioned the diffusion of the tourist product, so as to strengthen the local communities in as many areas as possible, which, although they are not as strong a brand, are as alluring as other popular destinations, noting that according to his data the goals so far have been achieved, including the extension of the tourist season, which he said this year will last until December 22.
Works and interventions
The minister also stated that the upgrade of infrastructure has already started and the Ministry of Tourism has made a specific recommendation for the establishment of an inter-ministerial committee, so that 35-50 major projects and interventions that touch on tourism, such as ports and marinas, solid waste, water resources and traffic management, can proceed with fast track procedures.
Finally, he underlined that the resources from the Recovery & Resilience Fund and the new NSRF are a huge opportunity for tourism investments which should be exploited in the best possible way.
