Thousands of counterfeit items seized and destroyed

Fines of 69,000 euros were imposed on 6 shops in tourist areas on Crete

In controls carried out during July 18 and 19 in six commercial stores in the tourist areas of Hersonissos, Stalis and Mallia in Heraklion, Crete, officers of the Interagency Market Control Unit of the Ministry of Development & Investments in collaboration with the Police Organized Crime Service of Crete 10,403 pieces of counterfeit clothing, footwear, bags, perfumes, accessories, toys, etc. were identified, seized and destroyed. The goods sported trademarks of well-known international brands and fines totaling €69,000 were imposed for marketing and dealing in counterfeit/false goods as defined in article 18 of Law 4712/20.

At the same time, the owners of the six stores were charged with forgery of intellectual property rights.

Inspections continue across the country.
